The Passionist archive at Mount Argus is the Provincial Archive for Ireland and Scotland. The archive was originally that of Mount Argus only, but gradually became the archive for the province.
It contains material relating to the activities of the Passionist Order in Ireland and Scotland. Records of the Fathers and Brothers date from 1805, although the house was founded in 1856.
Alongside the usual chronicles, Provincial Chapters, and accounts found in most religious archives, we have a diary of the early days of Mount Argus.
Of interest also is a diary by Fr. Pius Divine documenting his journey through the Americas in order to fund raise for the construction at Mount Argus.
The Cross bulletin was a monthly released by the Congregation. It contains valuable insights into Catholic life during the early part of the 20th century.
Our archive catalogue is part of a new project collating Catholic archives from all over Ireland called the Catholic Archives Catalogue.
Finally, the Passionists have a longstanding close relationship with law enforcement, in Ireland called the Gardai Siochana. We have some material relating to that also.
Visits to our archive are always welcome. It is necessary to contact us beforehand because the archivist is only available one day a week. See the contact section with details of how to get in touch.
