THE LATE REV. FATHER NICHOLAS, C.P. It is with deep sorrow that we chronicle the death of Rev. Father Nicholas, C.P., which took place on December 19, 1952, at St. Saviour’s Retreat, Broadway, Worcs. Francis Harbinson, as he was known in the world, was a native of Loup, Co. Derry, where he was born on February 21, 1878. At the age of twenty he sought and gained admission to the Passionist Novitiate at Broadway and pronounced his religious vows on June 7th, 1899. He completed his course of studies at St. Paul’s Retreat, Mount Argus, Dublin and was raised to the Priesthood by Most Rev. Dr. Donnelly at Holy Cross College, Clonliffe on September 22, 1906. After his ordination Father Nicholas was stationed at Holy Cross Retreat, Ardoyne, Belfast, and at various Passionist Retreats in England. Of a gentle and retiring disposition he gave himself unremittingly to the many duties of his priestly ministry where his kindly and helpful counsel endeared him to those placed under his care. His passing at seventy-four years of age breaks another link with the past and removes from our midst a zealous and edifying priest. We ask the prayers of our readers that God in His loving mercy will grant his good soul eternal rest. (The Cross, Vol. XLIII, 1952-53; p.169.)
