Father Hubert of the Seven Dolours. 29.Jan.1890. Province of St. Joseph. Father Hubert was born in Ireland on the 23rd of April 1868 and was baptized on the same day. His name in the world was James Reynolds. For some time he prosecuted his studies in our preparatory college in Dublin and at the age of nineteen he entered the Novitiate. After nine months he became so unwell that the Superiors decided on his returning home, and the good young man was perfectly resigned to the Will of God. His native air soon restored him to health and as his heart and soul turned again to the Novitiate he desired again to be numbered amongst the children of St. Paul of the Cross. His prayer was at once heard and as the time of his previous Novitiate had been spent most fervently and to the great edification of the religious, by a special dispensation of the holy see he was allowed to make his profession after six months of Novitiate, which he made with great fervour on the 30. Nov. 1886. The course of his studies was shortened and he had no sooner arrived at the canonical age than he was promoted to Holy Orders and ordained priest that he might have the consolation of offering the Holy Sacrifice of the mass. This young priest died a death truly precious in the sight of God six months after his ordination, leaving us a singular example of perfect conformity to the Will of God in all Things.
