REV. FATHER CORNELIUS (O’GRADY), C.P.
On Christmas Day, 1961, at St. Joseph’s Retreat, Highgate, London, the death occurred of Father Cornelius (O’Grady), C.P. After a long illness, this well-beloved Passionist went to his reward.
Born in Ballaghaderreen, Co. Roscommon, in 1890, he took vows in 1908, and on December 21st, 1908,. was ordained in Dublin by the late Archbishop Walsh. Subsequent to his Ordination, he resided in many Passionist Houses in these countries. For several years he was Vice-Rector of Mount Argus, and was later elected Rector of St, Anne’s, Sutton, Lancs. During World War 2, Father Cornelius was Superior of St. Joseph’s, Avenue Hoche, Paris, where his name is still held in benediction. On his return to England, he was appointed Superior at Herne Bay, Kent. The last years of his life were spent at Highgate.
