Holy Cross, Ardoyne. Brother James of the Mother of God, in the world named Patrick Connor, was born on 30 November 1839, in Killough, Ireland. Obeying the voice of a religious vocation, he entered our novitiate and after having duly passed the time of probation was professed as a Lay Brother in our novitiate at Broadway on 12th February 1891. He was an edifying religious, simple and pious in his manner and charitable towards the sick. He cheerfully performed the various duties imposed on him by obedience, having been appointed to the office of questor. For several years he performed this arduous duty. Some years ago his strength broke down, but although the infirmities of advanced years much enfeebled him, he gave much edification by his cheerful bearing of the afflictions to which he succumbed on 6th March 1909. He received the last sacraments with a resignation to God’s Will and accepted death in the same spirit of resignation.
