Brother Francis of the Blessed Sacrament. 28.Jan.1890. Province of St. Joseph. The first death of this year was that of Brother Francis of the Blessed Sacrament, who was born in Ireland on the 13th Dec. 1849. When he was thirty-seven years old he felt himself called to a more perfect life, and sought to be received amongst us as a lay-brother. His holy desire was granted and he was sent to the Novitiate in Broadway where he was clothed in the holy habit on the 17th of Feb. 1887 and having laudably passed the time of probation was professed on the 18th Feb. in the following year. Soon however the symptoms of consumption manifested themselves and wasted him slowly away. No medical art could save him and every care was vainly employed by the religious to restore him to health. During the short course of his religious life he was singular for the diligence and exactness he employed in fulfilling, the duties imposed upon him by obedience. All the comforts that our Holy Church imparts to her dying children were administered to him and fully resigned to God’s Holy Will he expired in the fortieth year of his age.
