Father Jerome of the S. Heart of Jesus. 5.Aug.1890. Province of St. Joseph. This good priest was born in the Diocese of Bruges in Belgium where he was promoted to sacred Orders and lived some time as a priest. Having passed most laudably thirty years of his life he was filled with ardent zeal for the conversion of England and the better to carry out his holy design became a Passionist. He made his Novitiate in Belgium, was clothed in the Retreat at Hardinghen on the 25th Oct.1872 and made his profession in the following year. Some time after his profession he obtained permission to leave the Belgian Province and went to England. The Superiors of that Province soon gave him an opportunity of exercising his ardent zeal by sending him to the Mission in Glasgow where for three years he laboured indefatigably for the welfare of the people. It would be difficult to imagine how much he worked for the good of souls in the confessional, preaching the word of God and giving himself assiduously to the assistance of the dying poor. At last his health by reason of his great labours and the trying climate was much impaired and Father Provincial was moved to take him from Glasgow and make him director of students, and for five years he was occupied in instructing them in the way of perfection. Finally he asked permission to return to his native land and by leave of the Provincial returned to Belgium where he died at his parents’ house. He was forty eight years of age and had spent eighteen years in the Congregation. He was called in the world Don Felix Nolf.
