To the Very Rev. J. F. Consultors, Rectors, Masters of Novices, and to all the Priests, Students, and Say Brothers of the Said Province of the Conqueration of the Most Holy Cross and Passion of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Health and Peace in the Lord.
Having obtained the requirite remission of Most Rev. J. General, we have now to announce to you the Convocation of the Twentieth Chapter of our Province. We appoint the Teast of St. James, 25th day of July next, as the day of the opening of the Chapter, and St. Joseph's Reheart, Highgate, London, as the place where it will be held.
The holding of the Provincial Chapter is an event which deeply concerns us all, whether we are superiors or subjects. In it are chosen those who under God are chosen declined for three years to govern the Province and the various communities of which it is composed. The well being of an Order or Conqueration, and the spiritual and temporal happiness of the religious depend in great measure on the character of the Superiors. When men are chosen who endeavour faithfully to copy in their own lives the example of our Blessed Lord, our Heavenly Model, men who are full at once of charity and firmness, who know how to unite the simplicity of the done with the wisdom of the servent, who are willing to sacrifice themselves for the brethren, and do not make their office a means of gratifying their love of self or of ease, then indeed all is well.
The other great duty of the Chapter is to consider the needs and requirements of the Province, and to try to meet them as far as possible. As time goes on, new conditions arise, and though Religious Orders ought digitally to guard their original spirit, yet they are not exempt from the general law that if an organism is to maintain a healthy and vigorous existence, it must seek to adapt itself to its environment.
We are convinced that these two objects of the Chapter will be greatly helped forward by the wise changes recently introduced into the procedure of both our General and Provincial Chapters. Besides butting an end to an end to an untestable number of scrutinies,

which in our days serves no good purpose, they will very much facilitate the selection of the best men; and what is also a point of great importance, they will secure the thoughtful and deliberate discussion of any measures or proposals which may tend to the advancement and prosperity of the Province.
The labours of men without the divine dissension will be in vain: "Unless the don't build the house, the builder's labours in vain" Oct 18th, 4. As we are all interested in the success of the labors, we ought we all to pray freewilly for this great end. We have our divine promise: "All things whatsoever you ask when ye pray, believe that ye shall receive, and they shall come into you" Mark 11, 24. If therefore we pray with confidence, we may be sure that God's dissension will rest on the labors. Our don't promise cannot fail. "Leaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away" Apr 25, 30. Accordingly we order that from the receipt of this letter until the 21st day of July the religious should receive during the time of the meeting meditation the following prayers: a Galen Clue and Gloria in honour of each of our Stoly Patrons, At Allchant, At Joseph, our Stoly Founder At Paul of the Bros, and At Gabriel, with the respective antiphons and prayers. And furthermore from the 1st to the 21st of July the "Veri Rector" with the versicle and prayer, and the Litary of the B. Virgin with the antiphon and prayer "Loncade" shall be received in addition to the above prayers. The clairs and lay brothers should receive At Communion on the days of the Trilum preceding the labors and on the day of the opening of the same. Let us not however content ourselves with the prayers and devotions prescribed. In our illness & communions and at other times let us carefully beg God's dissension on the labors and thus show we have the common good at heart.
We remind the Rectors to bring their "Litterae Galentes" and seals of office, and the Rectors and Superiors to bring to the labors the following documents: (1) Bertificate of the faithful exhibition of illusion signed by all the priests of the house except the Rector or Superior; (2) Bertificate of the faithful keeping of the Clashines signed by the Rector or Superior and the Vicar; (3) Inventory of House, burch, & sacrifice Turnstore; (4) a correct Financial statement of the Relief, viz the money and of penditure since the last labors signed by the Rector and the Vicar; (5) a faithful statement of the salts of the Relief showing the moneys borrowed at interest, the percentage payable, moneys borrowed without interest, all or abandoning debts & current fells to state

including rents, tapes etc. and finally the amount of the balance in hand or in the bank at the time of leaving office signed by the Rector & Councillors.
The Capitular Fathers are required to be at St. Joseph's Reheat London not later than the evening of the 21st of July so as to be present at the Tridum and the preliminary meetings
