Stephen & Decess of the 10th Provincial Chapter of the Augt. - Heberman Province of the Congregation of the Third Holy Cross & Passions of our Lord Jesus Christ under the title of St Joseph; held in the Relief of St Paul of the Cross Dublin
July 1884
On the 21st day of April 1884 the most Rev. St. Vincent of the Steeled Heart of Jesus - Provincial - insured to all the Superiors of the Province, the usual conversatory letter calling upon the Capitular fathers to assemble at St Paul's Relief Dublin, on the 21st July to assist at the "Lidium" in preparations for the Chapter rummored for the 21st July.
All the Capitular Fathers were found assembled on the appointed day. At 9 o'clock there assembled in the Chapter - room the following Fathers 1st The Tercy Rev St Lawrence of our Lady of Halp - President of the Chapter

The Very Rev H. Connell was unanimously cheried Beardary of the preliminary Conferences. A rescript of our Holy Father, Rev XIII was then read Granting an active voice on the Chapter, to the Very Rev H. Pridone of At-Josephis Hospice Pais and the Very Rev H. Robert of At-Hango's Hospice Chargon.
After some convertation a commission was appointed to examine with the financial Condition of each house in the Province.
The subjects for future discussion in the Chapter were then proposed by the assembled Fathers & this first meeting closed at 1-45 with the usual prayer.
2nd Conference
At 4 o'c p. m. the Capitular Fathers assembled in the Chapter-room. The certificates of the due celebration of Basses, the Keeping of the Archives & the inventories of the various houses were then handed in. The financial statements of the various houses were read & handed in, by the Rectors & Superiors.
Various other matters to be discussed at the Chapter were proposed at this Conference, which closed at 6-45 with the usual prayer.

This morning July 17th at 10 o'clock the Capitular Fathers assembled in the Chapter-room. After the usual prayers the oath "de perendo rervando" was taken by all the Capitulars. Who then began the discussion "Montrour et demontrour" of the Non-Capitulars having the passive voice. This Conference terminated with the usual prayers; at 12 o'clock
4th Conference
At 4 o'clock this morning July 20th the Father again assembled & the Conference was opened with the Customary prayers after which the discussion of the merits of the Capitular Fathers was commenced, each going out in his turn, beginning with the first. This Conference concluded at 11-45 with the Customary prayers.
This evening after Polemic Weekers at 4 o'clock. The usual Capitular discourse to the Community was delivered by the Very Rev. F. Alfonson 1st Consultor in which he spoke of the love we owe the Congregation as our mother, the interest we should take in all that concerns her welfare, the obedience we owe to her kills & decrees; that we should cherish her Traditions

have had spent as well as wear her habit & finally pray for her extension & welfare at all times but as preciably on an occasion such as the present
July 21st El Early on the morning of this day Mass was released arring by the Very Red Fr Vincent with the colonnelles usual on such occasions. Shortly after, all the religious community assembled in the Church from which they went in procession to the Chapels - room suggest the "Vegilla Regis"
On their arrival in the Chapels - room: at a signal from the Very Red Fr President, all returned & kept the Capitular Fathers, who answered to their names in the following order

Having utorned & sung the "Veri Creator" with the usual prayers, the Customary acts of mortification were gone through, and the absolution "ad cautelam" being given in the usual forms the seals of office were handed in. The protest of not excluding the worthy & not admitting the unworthy was then made, & the Principal decept. "Contra Sollicitantes" was read. The Provisional Secretary announced that he had received & examined the Certificates of the due celebration of Masses and the profess Custody of the Streeters & found them correct.
After this the Very Rev. H. President delivered a touching and eloquent address in Latin in which he dilated on the important occasion on which they were assembled, & the necessity of electing God Superior.
He then asked the Father whether they considered the Chapter lawfully commotted & was answered by each in the affirmative.
The Chapter then proceeded to the election of a Secretary & the shores fall on the Very Rev. H. Committee Afterwards they proceeded to the election of two Secretaries -

nears of the Chapter & the Very Key to Michael of the Heart of Mary, & the Very Key to Generosity of Al Joseph were expected to this office
All the causal requirements for the due opening of the Chapter being thus fulfilled; without further delay, the Capitular Father proceeded to the election of the Provincial. After some scrutinies there were fell on the Very Key to President of the P. Heart of the Secretary then listed the "place" of the Chapter to publish the election, which being immediately answered in the affirmative he proceeded to publish the election as follows "Cap Dominicus ad Immortalis Corde Mariae nomine nas ad ordinaria aliquisium vidi Consentimentum invocata Cordia Spiritis Sancti, eliq ad declara proruntus coram vobis publicis in Praepontum Provincialem. Provincia Sti Joseph Admonitum Recordum Patriarchi Vincentum a Raru Corde Jesu in nomine Patriarchi & Fili ex Spiritu Sancti. Order" - Some scrutinies were then taken for the office of 7th Consultor but the four being now 11-45. N. M. The Very Key to President concluded the session with the recital prayers
The religious community were then all called in to pay them obedience to the heavily elected Provincial which they did with Great pry. All then went to the church where the most tholis Dearnament was apposed, and the

"Ye Deum" saing in chartering to God
Several 2nd of This message was held in the afternoon at 4 p.m., being opened with the usual prayer by the Univ. Pro. H. President. The Chapels then resumed the election of the 1st Consultor. At the first constancy the choice fell on the Very Rev. H. Davis of the Punification. Harris obtained the "place" of the Chapels. The Recreatory published the election in the usual form.
The election for the Office of 2nd Consultor was then proceeded with. After several constancies the Very Rev. H. Frether of At. Park was chosen & the election published in the usual form.
The Very Rev. H. President then proposed the election of Master S. Norris & which Office the Very Rev. H. - Remark of the B. Virgin was chosen at the first constancy & the election duly published.
In the order & succession followed the elections for the various Patriarchs. For that of At. Park Highest was chosen the Very Rev. H. Gregory of At. Park for At. Quarrious Broadway. the Very Rev. H. Reinald of the Immaconceptions for At. Quarrious Patriarch Sulton the Virgin Rev. H. Gerard of the Immaconceptions for At. Park Rt. Butler the Very Rev. H. Jerome of the Punification, for

Holy Cross - Respect the Sen Ken H. Cuthony of the Holy Cross & for At Marijs Harborne the Very Ken H. Fitchard of the Sumaculali Conceptions Then the "place" of the Father being obtained the election to each Rebecca was in its own form duly published by the Secondary & the (Pessions terminated happily, all the Imperiors being elected at 7-45 p.m. when the President closed the Pessions with the usual prayers -
Pessions 3rd July 22nd
1st The Venerable Chapter assembled at 9o this morning. After the Customary prayers the Capitular Father in accordance with the 2nd decree of the 7th Pession of the 24th General Chapter, of our Conception, ordering special regulations to be drawn up for the works of the ministry on Missions & Rebecca, in this Provincial Chapter, recording to our rules and Customs, this Venerable Chapter has deputed the Provincial to appoint a commission to prepare the said sequelations to be submitted for the approbation of the Most Rev. H. General & his Consultors
2nd Decree The Venerable Chapter decrees a strict prohibition to all our religious engaged in Missions & Rebeccas, to use shong drinks - wines excepted -

unless by permission of the Proprietor. "Lotier quoties obliganda"
The Venerable Chapels furthermore decrees that our religious mut not parlake of strong brush (womes exception) before dinner "sub poena pusperarionis ipso facto invivenda" except in case of sickness & by special permission of the Proprietor, from the time of their departure for the Monsion or Setheal untill their return to one of our houses. This decree is hereby ordered to be inscribed in the regulations for our Divisions
3rd This Venerable Chapels calls the attention of all our religious to the 14th decree of the Compendium of decrees of Capitular Status Chapters drawn up in 1847 & regarding this publication of books & printing matters and urges on the Fr Provincial the necessity of watching over its observance fealously.
4th The Venerable Chapels letterwise reminds all Ruperiots and urges upon them the necessity of observing the decree of the 23rd General Chapels regarding Eptra - ordinary expenses & incurring debts.
5th After the experience of several years in the praelice of the regulations for our Alumni approved of "ad experimentum" by the Mrs. Per F. General Perrard Dary D. Jones; for their more perfect observance, the Venerable Chapels & recommends as a more fitting place

for the Mimmulo. The Retireal of At Mary Hamborne 6th the Chapter having under consideration the profect of a house of studies for our students, at At Paul's Retireal Bround Progress Commits to the In Provincial with his consultors, the duty of forming a method and course of studies & regulations to be submitted to the First Rev In General & his consultors for approbation. If the Variable Chapter urges the necessity of that point of our Holy Earl Bap XXII on Plithy - being observed, which provides that the dull & negligent students be removed.
8th the Chapter orders that the title of "Mervend" must never be given to lay-brothers of our Congregation nor assumed by them
9th this Variable Chapter has heard with surprise & deep regret that some of our religious have brought discredit on their brethren & the Congregation by using what are called "Private Post Offices" i.e. sending & receiving letters otherwise than through the legitimate Chamell of their Superiors. This Variable Chapter severely reprehends this abuse and hereby forbids it for the future & orders that Rectors & Superiors, watch vigilantly over the observance of this decree - a point insisted on so strongly by our Holy Founder At-Gaul

Find in order, that there may be uniformity among the Rectors & Supervisors in this important matter they are reminded of the strict right accorded them by Dr. Holy Rules Pap III of opening all letters without humans respect - at the same time not reading without necessity or some just & sufficient Cause, letters addressed to those who some Episcopal Missions, regarding the direction of routes
17th The Variable Chapter charges the Rectors & Supervisors to watch over the observance of the decree of the 23rd General Chapter, with reference to "News-papers and journals & to limit these in their perhaps & houses to one daily paper, & one weekly Pecuniary or religious journal except in some extraordinary circumstance judging dependance from this rule
14th It having come to the knowledge of this Variable Chapter, that some religious of our Congregation not only consider it lawful to keep what is called the "Prendiums" or pocket-money but attempt to defend the practice, this variable Chapter declares their Conduct & the principles by which they defend it, to be contrary to the sacred Reasons of the Church, distinctly against the Holy Council of Trent & directly opposed to Dr. Holy Rules &
