Acts of the fourth Provincial Chapter of the
Auglo-Hobernian Province
Of the Passion of Our God Lesus Christ
under the title of St Joseph
Held in the Retest of St Sun Setton from the 8th
title the 10th day of May 1866
On the 11th day of April 1866 our Very Rev. Father
Provincial Legatures of the Infant Lesus, directed according
to our Holy Hole his Convocatory letter to all the Very
Reverend Vocal Fathers and to all the Religious of the
Congregation in this Province approaching the Retest of
St Suns Setton, as the place of Capitular meeting
for the fourth (by order of time fifth) Chapter of the
Province and firing for its opening the 9th day of
May fewet of the Apparition of St Michael of Mich-
ael angel. He at the same time directed the Very
Reverend Vocal Fathers to be in attendance at the
usual preparatory meetings, and at the Indum
which would take place on the 5th to 6th and 7th May,
on which daysall the Clerks and lay brothers would
receive Holy Communion; he moreover preverbed
that besides the prayers which each Religious was
exhorted for offer protest to God, there should be
recited in Common by the entire Community during
the time of evening meditation the following
prayers— The Ten Creator Spiritus. The Vitary of
the Blessed Virgin Mary— the prayer Concede
quaesumus.— Pater Sae, and Gloria Patra, in honour
of St Michael St Joseph and Blessed Paul of the Cross
together with the respecting prayers.

Reverend order Fathers to be in attendance at the
usual preparatory meetings, and at the Indum
which would take place on the 5th to 6th and 7th May,
on which daysall the Clerks and lay brothers would
receive Fally Communion; he moreover prescribed
that besides the prayers which each Perligious was
exhorted from offer provity to God, there should be
receited in Common by the entire Community during
the time of evening meditation the following

The last Chapter of the Rovinger was criworked
in the mouth of August 1863 never the regular time

for this Chapter has been articipated, this has been done by diction of the Most Rev. Father General Rev. Paul of Quillady of Dolgurs and Special permission of the May See to enable the May Rev. Father Provincial Signatures of the Infant Seas to proceed without delay to America to avisit in the name of the General the houses of Congregation there, and to preside in the fourth coming Chapter of that Province,
In accordance with the Convocatory letter, the May Rev. Vocal Fathers were all assembled at the appointed times in the Retreat of Athens. Besides the Capitular Fathers of the Province there were present the May Rev. Father Damasus of At Peter 2nd Provincial Consultor of the Belgian-French Province who came destined by the Most. Rev. Father General to preside at our Chapter, all respected at the Eridum on Saturday evening the 5th May;
On Sunday at 3 O'clock P.M. the Capitular Fathers with their President responded for the first time in the library of the Retreat which was chosen for the Chapter Room, the President opened the proceedings with the accustomed mayers. The Provincial Consultors and the Rectors of the different Retreats diligenced up to the President their Seal of office, the Rectors their letteral patenters, and the Supremes of the Houses in Paris and Glasgow together with the Rectors gave resentories of their Respective Houses and Churches an abstract of the continuation

the 5th May:
On Sunday at 3 O'clock P.M.,
the Capitular Fathers with their President
assembled for the first time in the library of
the General which was chosen for the Chapter
Room, the President opened the proceedings
with the accustomed prayers, the Provincial
the Consultors and the Rectors of the different
Receits delinged up to the President their Seals
of office, the Rectors their letteral patentes, and the
Supremes of the Houses in Paris and Clasgrow
together with the Rectors gave urbentones of their
Respective Houses and Churches an abstract
of their administration and the certificate
of the clerge celebration of Masses, signed by
all the Priests in their Respective Communities,

It was proposed and unanimously agreed that the Very Rev. Father Alphonses of the Blessed Virgin Mary act provisionally as Secretary during the preliminary meetings.
The Resident then invited each Capitular in his turn to name such topics as he intended to propose for Consideration during the preliminary meetings, or for the Acliberation of the Chapter after the elections, several topics were mentioned and noted down numerically by the Resident and Capitulars already already.
The oatho de Seresto Servandoss having been taken they proceeded to discuss severally the ments of those having voice in the Chapter, during the discussion of ments each Capitular beginning with the Very Rev. Father Provincial Aft the Chapter room in his turn, when the last of the Capitulars began it was 6 o'clock f. Mr. this first meeting they terminated with the Customary prayers of thanksgiving.

Monday morning at 9 o'clock the Capitulars Fathers together with the Resident, assembled for the 2d turn. The proceedings opened with the usual prayers. Some additional topics for Acliberation were then proposed and noted dough numerically by all the Capitulars with those mentioned at the former meeting after which they proceeded to discuss the ments of the Fathers of the Provincial servants the prayers

Our Meeting.
Monday morning at 9 o'clock the Capitular Fathers together with the Resident, assembled for the 2 Huns. The proceedings opened with the usual prayers. Some additional topics for deliberation were then proposed and noted doubtfully by all the Capitulars with those mentioned at the former meeting after which the proceeded to discuss the means of the Fathers of the Province enjoying the passion over, afterwards, they discussed barrows subjects for the interest and welfare of the Province.

Opening of the Chapter.
1st Desserv.
On the Heart of the Apparation of St Michael the Dechangel Tuesday May 8th at 7 o'clock the Solemn Votive Mass. "De Spiritu Sancto" was celebrated by the Key Pro Father Lynatis of the Infant Seens with the accentuated ancient Ceremonial, after Mass the whole Community assembled in the Church and from thusco went in procession to the Chapter room following the Most Hary Encyclic and singing the pyrmu Keyllew Regis "which was introded by the Resident, having arrived at the Chapter room the pyrmu concluded and the usual prayer having been sung the Resident dismissed in the accustomans from all who were not entitled to vote in the Chapter, Abeant exteriornes et consistant electores convitorum."
The Key Pro Father Resident addressed the Capitulars in Latin, impressing strongly upon them the importance of the work for which they were assembled, and exporting them to renew their prayers to God for light in the choice of Superiors, and in all their celebrations their followed the Teni Centor in which all the Capitulars joined and which was followed by the usual prayer the Resident having then called over the names of the Capitular Fathers their were found brought the following who

Rev. Father Damasus of the President of the Chapter with
power to vote and to Confirm the election of the Cestors
and Master of Voices.
The Chapter therefore proceeded to the election of the
Proprietarial the votes were taken and at the first something
the Terry Rev. Father Eugene of the Authority was
unanimously elected to the office of Provincial
upon which the Secretary having obtained the place
of the electors immediately feared and published

Resident then confirmed the election of the Rectors and Master of Journey after which with the accountanced thanksgiving the Session was closed
3rd Session
Our Wednesday morning the Capitular Fathers Assembled at 9 o'clock further 3rd Session. After working the Holy Spirit the acts of the preceding meetings and Sessions were read over in the diocese the diocese.
The prospect of a new foundation of Naphol was the first matter brought before the Capitulars the Secretary read a private Communication from the Bishop and a Benefactor opening a considerable sum to help in the purchase of a suitable site for the proposed foundation to which there would be attached a parish in which there is a town of considerable size, the proposal was discussed at length and in all it bearings the prospect as far as at present known are most promising the notes having been round, the Chapter was found undermounted in favour of the new foundation leaving to the Room-cail all future arrangements.
The next topic for deliberation regarded the admission into the Convenation of an exclusive brother (Norman Dawson) the Most Rev Father General granted to the Keny Rev Father Provincial and his Counsellers the faculty to readmit him they however judged it proper to affect the matter to the consideration of the Chapter, vers after mature deliberations the Master was found unagreeable and sure in favour of the Chapter.

It next topic for deliberation regarded the A-
admission into the Convegation of an explay brother
Storman Duwson, the last Per Father General
granted to the Very Per Father Provincial and his
Consulters the faculty to readmit him they how-
low judged it proper to refer the matter to the Con-
vidguation of the Chapter, after vers mature deliberation
the votes were found unanimous in favour of his
A-admission.
The new foundations in Paris and Glasgow

afforded interesting matter of consideration the former
was going on steady and satisfactorily numbers
of English Catholics flocked to the Church for
the Ministerations from Fathers, many Protestants
have been received into the Church and considerable
funds towards a future and more permanent settle-
ment are already in hand.
The Glasgow-foundation is effecting a vast
amount of good a wide field lies before the Religious
in which they are exercising their great and working
with great success the prospect of enlarging the
present Church or rather building a new Church
of which the present will form one arise is immediate
and promising, the work will soon be com-
menced.
The prospect and progress of the other houses
and pleasures were then drove upon all which
thanks be to God are bright and cheering - at
St Lorentine Richard Courdon they are actually
engaged in the exection of new and extensive
Schools for the increasing wants of the mission
at St Lorentine Richard Courdon it is hoped that
the foundation stone of new schools will shortly
be lyed, at Blessed Paul's Dublin the building
of the New Church will be commenced and
proceeded with, with as little delay as possible
It is recommended to the Pestors and
Superiors and Pestors of Houses to observe faith-
fully and cause to be observed what has
been deserted in former Chapters regarding the
Secular Hages of the Religious and to be vigilantly
considered in the interest of the Religious.

for Missions regarding the freedom of the Catechism
and sermon to use the small bell as a signal which
each in his own term should prudently obey endeavor
to conclude as far as possible within 5 minutes
after the signal is given
It is recommended to all the Religious
in order to the faithful observance of their vow of
proverty and the Cultivation of Holy Recollection of
Spirit to assid travelling about without / necessity,
necessity, the Pectors and Superiors, are charged to watch over
and themselves endeavour to conform and by their
own example give effect to the observance of their
Counsel.
The Renewable Chapter cannot conclude this
last session without alluding to one of the Capitulars
Fathers of the Province whom God has called
to his eternal record, whose remains are dep-
osited in his house of which he was chosen

Were he present with us today we know
the earnestness which he was wont to ask
on these occasions and with which he would
now ask - the success of our prayers for the
Convenion of England. This his Spirit of Geal
for the Convenion of his Nation Country was one
with the Spirit of our Blessed Father and Founder
and we may well suppose them united this day
in Heaven to ask from above that which was
the demest Hyest of their desires whilst here
on earth.
The Verenable Chapter therefore exhorts the
Rest of the Roomer to add to the Labour of

Their Ministry by which they are worthing so happily for the end, freenest prayer by means of which their labours shall become doubly fruitful - to lose no opportunity of promoting the Association of Brayers for the Convension of England and to make the best use they can for this end of the means now at their Command through the Confraternity of the Capsion and the members agreeated thereto. We warmly enteat all the other Religious to keep they object before their minds and help by their prayers in the Convension of all in use and unbelief, especially of this native over the return of so many of whose using children we have had of late years and have at present such cause to rejoice.
The Secretary having read over all the Acts of the preceding Meetings and Sessions, and having been approved of by the assembled Capitulus Fathers; the newly elected Capsioners made the required professions of their Faith, and having returned heartfelt thanks to almighty God this fourth Provincial Chapter was concluded Damasus a S.
